Kanda Poha is a well-known Maharashtrian dish. Kanda is a Marathi word for Onion and Poha is flattened or beaten rice. This dish is made with thick flattened rice. In Maharashtra it is the most liked dish. This dish is spicy as well as slightly sweet.
I first had this dish at my aunt's place and I loved it a lot. You can have it as breakfast or tea time snacks. It's very easy and quick to make. If you are in hurry you can make this dish for breakfast as well as for tiffin. Poha is a light dish and can be easily digested.
Ingredients
Poha / Thick Flattened Rice - 250 Gms
Onion - 1 Large
Mustard Seeds - 1/4 Tsp
Cumin Seeds - 1/4 Tsp
Green Chilli - 4
Curry Leaves - 6
Sugar - 3 Tsp
Tumeric Powder - 1/4 Tsp
Coriander Leaves - 1/4 Cup
Salt - As Per Taste
Oil - 1 Tbsp
Instruction
Take poha in a strainer and sprinkle some water over it. Poha should become moist.
Now heat a pan and add oil to it. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let it splutter.
Now add chopped onion, green chili and curry leaves. Cook till onion turns soft and transparent.
Add turmeric powder and mix well. Now add poha and mix it well.
Add salt and sugar (You can adjust the sugar quantity as per your taste). Cover the pan and cook for 3 to 4 min on low flame.
Switch off the stove and sprinkle some lemon juice and chopped coriander leaves.
Your Kanda Poha is ready to serve.
Serve Kanda Poha with tea or coffee.
